good afternoon, I had a quick question for the seasoned chick/chicken owners, how can you spot a deaf chick? Out of the 16 chicks we have 1 that is unresponsive to noise, example, we turned on the lawn mower and the other chicks ran and she just stood there, or i pick her up and if i call her name loudly or even whistle while she isnt looking at me she is unresponsive to that, where the other chicks hear me and are curious. Physically she seems fine and active, but the poor thing cant chirp i watch her and if she tries to chirp nothing comes out☹️ do you think shes deaf? shes always been quiet i guess i just never noticed how quiet. Edit: im not sure if this has anything to do with it but she has some drool in her beak right now is this serious????? shes wanting to fall asleep in my hand please help i read this is not normal

It almost sounded like she may have had a seizure or similar thing, something that shocked her system, such as heat, dehydration, etc. I'm not sure really what is causing that, but shock seems most probable to me, and electrolytes and vitamin water might help.

If you have some electrolytes, I'd give that in their water for a day or two and see if that helps. Vitamin water too in case she got a bug she's fighting off.

If you don't have any electrolytes, you can Google how to make or here's one way:

Electrolytes.
• 1 cup warm water
• 2 teaspoons honey OR molasses OR granulated sugar
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
• 1/8 teaspoon baking soda OR 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

thank you so much. she still has quite a lot of clear drool in her mouth and i just checked on her again, it seems she tried to eat and it got stuck in this mucus. We have kept clean fresh water out multiple times a day but it has been pretty hot outside even though we have a fan on low. I pray she will be okay, shes still just wanting to lay down. I did massage her throat a little and she started to get more drool up and chirp.
