So I've read a bit about getting a variety of egg colors, but I want to make sure I'm understanding it correctly.

From my reading I understand that hens will only lay one color of egg throughout it's life, so if the hen is breed w a Maran or OE that would only effect the color of their offspring's egg.

I'm asking because I have two chicks that are possible EE's that hatched from brown eggs. If I'm understanding this correctly it means they could still lay blue or green eggs depending on which rooster sired them... right?

The chicks are only two weeks so it'll be awhile before I'll know for sure, but it sure would be nice to get some blues or greens.

From what I understand from my research if the rooster is a "true blue" or Easter egger type with blue gene & the hen lays brown than their chicks would either lay brown or green eggs. They will not lay blue.

I found this very useful. It shows the egg color possibilities from using certain roosters with certain hens.
