I'm finally approved through the state to sell eggs (Yay!!) and I was thinking of building a little honest box. Maybe similar to the one in the pic. Just to help get rid of all the extras we don't eat ourselves (and to help fund coop expansions and treats and toys lol). But I'm still debating if it would be a good idea. Lots of my neighbors want to buy eggs, but if people took eggs and didn't pay, I'd be missing out on paying customers.
What are some of your thoughts? Is it not worth the risk? Or perfect for a busy chicken mom?

I think it would depend on where you live, if it's a small rural town where you trust your neighbors than I would say go for it. With that said, I'm a private person and would not like for people to come in and out of my area of residency just because of safety issues involved (perhaps I'm just a paranoid person)...... whatever the case may be, if it's something you already want to try then you should give it a go for a couple of weeks and and see if it works out and that people aren't stealing. It's something fun too, I suppose, and a bit of change in the pocket.

As others have said, it really depends on your area and even the specific location that you might post a sign. I used to buy eggs from a house using the honor system but there was no signs advertising it, as it depended on people knowing the eggs were there through word of mouth. So if it's mostly your neighbors that you're selling too, I'd just let them know where they can go to pick up and pay, rather than post a (very cute) sign that might alert too many passers by.

I'd say go for it. I think people find that there are more honest people out their than dishonest. You may lose a dozen or two but for the most part people will pay.
If it can work for an airport bookstore, it can work for neighborhood eggs. You can always stop if you lose to many.
And, yes, that setup is adorable.

Every spring a older gentleman sets up a card table at end of driveway and sells tomatoes plants on honor system. He has a cash box people even make their own change. I once asked him if he had a lot of thief, he told me never many times there was to much money in box for plants sold. Go for it you will find out quickly if good idea.

We have produce stands here like that , but honestly I wouldn’t buy eggs from a stand not knowing how long they’ve sat in the sun and rain would ruin the cartons ,

I sold a lot more eggs after buying an “ egg fridge” then when they sat on the counter , no matter what I told people or even put up a sign they want their eggs in the fridge where they belong :)
