Egg Peritonitis Surgery Aftercare

Hello, my chicken is booked in for egg peritonitis surgery this week. I just wanted to hear from anyone who has done this and the best aftercare recommendations. Obviously I will have the vet recommended medications, but does anyone have any other advice. Thank you in advance <3

Welcome to BYC. Where are you located? How old is your hen? Are they going to use anesthesia? I have never had a hen who had this surgery, although quite a few of hens have died from it and other reproductive problems that caused crop and other issues. Spaying or removal of the oviduct along with a hormone implant to stop egg production is the most common treatment after antibiotics. Survival probably is related to how long it has been going on. Here is a good article about EYP and treatment options:
