Egg possessive

Hello,
Now that two (or 3?) of our chickies are laying, Millie and Dove, both Sapphire Gems, will try to take the eggs out of our hands after we've collected them! They don't attack the eggs while they are in the nests, though. And they aren't sitting on the eggs when we take them. Do they just want us to not take them? Do they want to eat them?

Are they hanging out in the boxes for long periods of time or are you just right there waiting for the egg? I have never had a hen do this when she wasn’t broody but I usually collect eggs in the afternoon when there’s no one in the coop. Interested to see what others have to say

Just grab the eggs, close your hand over them and don't show it to them? It sounds like a curiosity thing - you're holding it so it might be a treat.

Sounds like a good idea. Also, maybe a container that is drab looking?
