First time here. Raise both egg and meat chicken and turkeys. Also raise goats, pigs, a couple of pet cows for my wife and 6 horses.

Back In June I got an Emu(female) at just over the age of 6 months. When I first got her she seemed to have decent balance but am new to Emus and probably could have spotted a developing issue when I think back. She would sometimes fall and flail around until upright. However, I'm concerned that the current issue I am seeing could be attributed to closed head injury resulting in some level of neurological brain damage. On the other hand, the balance issue seems like it may have been manifesting prior to such instances. Furthermore, the balance has since become much worse over time. This has led to difficulty in eating and drinking since she appears to only want to stand in order to do so. Additionally, in order to attempt to compensate for the balance issue she splays her legs. She mostly falls backwards and tumbles, though sometime forward when trying to avoid falling backward, and over countering as a result. Since I assist her by holding her up to eat and drink I have since notices her joints click quite often now. This is leading me to believe that the issue may be deficiency related and causing he to become arthritic, though poor leg posture from the leg splaying may also be causing joint this.

That all being said, I also have a male that I bought from the same breeder. He has no issues. In fact he is out growing her by a fair bit. He is extremely active and is very agile and precise with all his movement. They both eat Kalmbach ratite food. I have since been putting poultry booster in with the food as well and a poultry vitamin/mineral supplement in the water supply. However, since she prefers to stand when eating and drinking, I don't believe she is getting much of a chance to do either through out the day except for when I assister her in standing. With that in mind, I don't know if ingestion of minerals through daily food and water intake are effective in treating some sort of deficiency.

My question: is there a concentrated oral or injectable vitamin/mineral supplement that could be suggested or other method or thoughts on this matter someone may have. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry to lack any real answer.

Chicks at that age should be agile and precise in their movements. If they fall, they should be up in a flash. They should be growing like a magic bean stalk.

And yes, they do usually sit down to eat.

Your chick seems to be seriously ill. Good luck.
