so, the story goes like this... I was away for 7 days and OFCOURSE my chickens were well looked after but the caregiver didn’t realize till 3 of the chickens died. One was a wyandotte and the other was a Brahma. When I was informed, the information given to me was that the chickens had flu and all of them were sick now. This is when 3 of the chickens died. So I told the caregiver to immediately give TYLAN orally to all of them. He said after doing so, all the chickens looked fit the next day. But he continued to give oral tylan for the next 3 days.

Today when I went to see the little chickens-that are about 2.5 months old almost-one chick was dead.

What went wrong even after tylan?

Need help. I am a newbie-need loads of guidance please especially where flu like symptoms are concerned.

Also, I live in Pakistan where the temperatures range from 25 to 42 degree CELSIUS.

I need advise from the experts please. Thanks in advance.

If they truly have avian influenza, then antibiotics aren't going to help. The flu is a virus, and viruses cannot be treated with antibiotics. They just have to run their course. You could provide supportive care such as electrolytes and poultry vitamins in their water, but there isn't much else you can do for them.

What were the flu-like symptoms? Has there been some respiratory disease going on in your flock, since you had Tylan around? Chicks around that age would be more likely to have coccidiosis, an intestinal disease, unless they had been exposed to a respiratory disease. Maybe the heat was an issue? Do they have plenty of shade and cool water? In hot weather my chickens need pans of shallow water available to cool their legs, and they drink much more.

Symptoms of coccidiosis are sleepiness, weakness, no appetite, standing hunched, and diarrhea with mucus or sometimes blood. Amprollium, sulfa antibiotics, or toltrazuril are some medicines used to treat coccidiosis. Sorry for your loss.

Tylan is usually given 5-7 days 2 to 3 times a day (depending on severity of symptoms) if oral to make sure that if it IS a bacterial infection...it's enough time to make sure it's gone. Was it the tylan 50 or tylan 200?

YOU ARE RIGHT... ITS TOO HOT IN HERE.. the temperature reaches 100 degree Fahrenheit.

With my chickens...i take the injectable dosage in a syringe and put it directly on a piece of bread and let it soak in...then I give each chicken a piece...this way they get their full dosage...tylan isn't supposed to be put in water unless it is the water soluble powder.
