I have some buttermilk that's expired. Is it ok to give to the chickens? It's store bought stuff - I think it's the rich whole milk kind.

Will it have the cultures in it to give them good bacteria? Or, since it's old, will it give them bad bacteria.

I thought of just pouring it out, but decided I ask here if it's possible to feed it to the chickens.

If I can feed it to them....do I just put a bowl of it out or do I need to mix anything in with it?

Get a dish and mix some of the buttermilk with their feed. Mix enough feed with it so it's similar to the consistency of ketchup or a little thicker. They will love it. The bacteria will be good for their digestive systems. Also, the calcium will be good for their bones and help to strengthen their eggshells.
