It is extremely cold here, my automatic door didn't open. Should I leave my Chickens in? There food and water is in the Chicken run not in the coop. I covered the runs with clear tarps to shield them from the wind.
You might manually open the door and give them the option of going outside. Definitely shovel any snow, giving them a path to walk out on. Hopefully this cold blast gets out of here soon for all of us!
Hi, welcome to BYC! Where do you live? In SW MO, it was -1 F yesterday morning. I opened up like I always do. When the sun came out, the chickens came out too. We didn't have any snow, but even when there is, I clear areas for them in the run and lure them out with scratch feed.
Chickens have down jackets on, and mine have endured -20F. They didn't like it, but they survived, and the coop door was open every day. It's a big door too, walk in for humans.
