Hi, I have a bantam chicken that has injured her eye (possibly a peck as she’s low in pecking order and broody). It was swollen and she would not open it. Has been on antibiotics for nearly 1 week. Swelling has gone down and is now opening her eye, but it looks like the picture attached.

Any advice on what this is or how to further treat it? She is otherwise very happy, healthy, eating and drinking well. She does try to scratch the eye sometimes.

Thank you

Is the eye covered in pus or gunk? It looks like the eye may be scarred or blind. I would get some saline or Bausch and Lomb eye relief at the store or pharmacy, and flush her eye 2-3 times a day. Then apply some plain Neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment to it 2-3 times a day. Let us know if it looks different. If she is blind, she will survive, but may have a little problem seeing those who come up to her side. Is she pecking at her food normally?

Thank you for replying, appreciate it. There doesn’t appear to be any puss coming from the eye. Although I was unsure if the white on the eye was hardened puss. She’s reluctant to let me near the eye but I’ve been using saline drops morning/pm and she’s had antibiotics. Eating absolutely fine. I’ll try as you say with more regular drops etc. No problems if she is blind, I’ll make sure she’s looked after. Just wondered if there was anything else I could do to help her. Thanks again
