Howdy! I am fairly new to raising chickens so please forgive me if this is a normal scenario. Yesterday when I was holding Karen, I noticed a little bump on her eyelid. It is only on this one side. She is behaving as she normally does (feisty and very ‘Karen’ like lol). She also doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. Part of me says not to be concerned unless I see behavior changes of some type. None of the other girls (u have 4 totally) have anything on their kids, either. They are all roughly 22 weeks old. Without trying to sound like a helicopter mom… lol help lol!

I was wondering if it was a scratch. I zoomed in and it looks like a little scab is on there but to be frank… my eyesight isn’t the best up close lol

Or a peck wound. She may have been pecked by a sister. Either scenario are pretty common. If you suspect there might be something in her lower eyelid, you can rinse it with sterile saline. Also, If you have plain neosporin without pain relief or terramycin eye ointment, you can apply a bit of that to the scabbed area. You can also leave it be and just monitor if you think it’s alright as is. But if the wound starts to swell or causes her any issues, come back for a second opinion.

Thank you all so much! This morning when I checked her, the brown crusty looking part was gone and it just looked like a little owie that’s healing… sort of like when we lose a scab too soon I guess? I didn’t think about being pecked by one of her sisters. I’ll keep an eye (hah! Dorky pun) on it and do nothing for now.

Thank you all!
