Hi,
I've noticed that Farm and Fleet sells chicks. How was everyone's experience there? Were the chicks healthy? Farm and Fleet is over 2 hours away and I want your advise before actually going there. By the way, I'm in Illinois.
Hello werttyy,I have bought about 100 chicks from them plus many other items they are tops and hard to beat. one of the better farm supply stores. good luck on your chicks.
I am in Illinois too, half way between 2 Farm and Fleets. We go there a lot to pick up our chicken/horse/farm supplies. I was just there three days ago and picked up a few chicks. They have signs saying they are from Cackle Hatchery. If I can remember right, they had Black Jersey Giants, Buff Orps, Cherry Eggers, White Austra, Red Star, Barred Rock. Those were all pullets. Then they had some polish, and a few Booted Bantams. There might have been another kind of pullet, I don't remember. They had chicks a few weeks ago, this is a new batch. There were quite a few of them.
I picked up the remaining 5 Booted Bantams. There was one in there that didn't look so good, but I couldn't leave it behind. It was dead two hours later. I gave it a small drink when I got home and put it in the brooder right away, but it didn't work. I also picked up 5 Buff Orps. All the rest are doing great. They sell them in lots of 5. I am not sure if you have to buy 5 of one kind, or if you can mix them up to make 5.
I didn't get any of them last year, but the year before I got a few. I think I sold most of those.
I "second the motion" to check out the Rural King stores. I love my birds from Townline. Especially the ISA Browns. Four hours of driving is a long way to go for chicks. Especially with gas so high. You're dedicated. Keep us posted on what you end up buying.
