Is it possible to have a faulty hen? She is my only Easter egger who isn’t laying yet. We got our hens in June all within one week of each other. Most everyone seems active except for our silkie, Charlotte, and the this little Easter egger, Hop. I was looking today and noticed the saddle feathers on Hop look different from the other hens, but the coloring is female and so is the behavior. I have one that has carried itself like a roo her whole life, but I was a little bit disappointed when she started dropping blue eggs. Is it possible I missed a male here? Or are there hens that just never begin to lay?
We are quite warm here, they have layers feed, plenty of oyster shell, they aren’t in any way nutrient deficient. I’ve felt for eggs that might be stuck and checked the measurements. She has definitely not begun to lay, the space in her abdomen is too narrow compared to my other hens. I’m not sure if the same measurement applies to my silkie, but we kinda figured she’s the runt of the bunch. I’ve asked for help determining my flock’s genders in the past and everyone agreed I have hens. I just can’t figure out what’s the hold up?
