I use Home Grown No-Soy No-Corn feed for my chickens.

I decided to check other brands but need the "chicken experts' opinion" on this one... Can you please tell me which one is the best one (and why, so I can learn too

) when comparing the labels?

Thank you!

No one???

Yesterday the guy at the feed store said that Home Grown is way better (more quality) than Xcel feed...

The ingredients are where I would judge the quality. These #s are about the same for all decent food. I know the Homegrown soy & corn free layer here had mostly wheat products & peanut hulls in it. Not a quality feed in my book, though it met the numbers chickens need. Don't know if regular homegrown is better than the rest. What are the ingredients?

I personally like corn + soy because the amino acid profile is complimentary and therefore a more complete protein. Meat proteins are a bit better. Including meat is also important, but you can manage without if nessecary.

Edited for spelling. lol

Also methonine as an added nutrient is very expensive and as I remember production of it has negative effects on our Earth. Sorry I don't remember the details , just saying there are pros and cons to every choice.

Also-- all these commercial blends meet basic layer requirements-- feed is far more than the anaysis.

This is the label for the regular Homegrown. However, all Purina products vary regionally. They have a guaranteed analysis but not ingredients. So they can basically use whatever they want in the food as long as meets their analysis for necessary nutrients. There are some questionable ingredients (such as ethoxyquin).
