Hi, I'm looking for a solution to trap flies and have them fall to the ground in the chicken run for the birds to eat. There seem to be plenty of ways to trap and kill flies but I'm not sure I'd want to feed the chickens the flies caught in those traps. Does anyone do this? Like a safe bug zapper without a tray...

A bottle trap will trap flies without anything dangerous. Cut the top third off a bottle, remove the lid, and shove the cut piece back into the bottle, upside-down, to make a funnel into the trap. Plonk fly bait in, set upright in fly territory, and wait.

how large is the fencing netting on your run? Best way to control mass amounts of flies is to let a small wasp fam move in we have 1/2 inch gaps along sides of rooffing so we currently have a few week old nest keeping our girls totally fly free! Then should they make it to winter they'll be killed and nest shall be removed

I know this post is ages old in internet time, but...
Me too! (To the 1st post.) I had a bug zapper but my set up wasn't ready. NOW zapper lights up and isn't killing them. New one too spendy. Want to provide feast, but not worried about amount of flies. Trying "DIY fly bucket trap" again this year. Feed chickens free maggot protein from compost! More worried about wasps than flies! I've put in SO much work moving wasps out. Going to try bottle trap. Very similar to 'Rescue disposable fly trap' I've been looking at but worried about food safety.
