Hi Everyone,
First time for me hatching Chicks. Used Chickcozy.
7 out of 7 chicks Hatched (had 24 originally but most didn't grow or not fertile)
2 of my chicks have legs that kind of curl inwards making walking hard, Another has just one of her legs doing this.
I have heard it can be fluctuating Humidity and temp or both. Who knows its my first time. Do I need to splint the feet to cure it? Or does it go away on its own?
If the curly legs stay.... Do they walk around like that as adults?? I can't imagine this is good because chickens mostly just walk around all day. I am not sure what to do but I have heard splinting the foot it the thing to do. Can I do with sports tape or duct tape or cardboard or bandaids?
It happened on 2 of my last chicks to hatch and I was opening the incubator alot to check on them etc so do you think this would have caused it? I have been since told wait at least 2 days and don't open the incubator at all during all the hatching..
I had already taken the older 2 out at 12 hours. It thought they needed to eat and drink. The older 2 are in the brooder now under the heat plate. I have shown each to drink and food. They are both not eating or drinking, just sleeping under the heat plate. How do I know if its warm enough or too hot. Should they be back in the incubator with the others.
I am very worried because here in Australia its Autumn so its not summer or spring here. Will the heat plate suffice. Its a comfort 30cm x 30cm with temp regulator attachement.
Please help. Thank you.
