Hiya, yesterday I noticed my Cayuga duck had started to sit on her eggs, I candled a few and found out they where fertile. She was off them twice for about an hour or so yesterday, for her breaks which is normal. But today she didnt leaves her eggs until around 1:45 and she didn’t go back in till about 5, will the eggs still be okay. She had them covered with her nesting but I felt one and it wasn’t freezing it just wasn’t necessary warm. She’s been sitting on them since around 5 and most likely will until the morning. Since quarantine is killing me duckings are very exciting as I have never hatched them before, I’m just concerned she left them for to long and the cell died, can this happen.

How do you know they were fertile? We're there embryos in them? How many days has she been sitting? She might not be sitting very seriously yet. You can set up a broody coop for her or section it off. I wouldn't let her go outside or be with other ducks because she might decide to abandon them then. If she's closed off by her self in just a coop then she'll sit better.

My brother and I candled the eggs yesterday and they had the signs of a growing cell and about 6 of them where the same. We have a 6x10 shed for them, currently it’s just the duck and drake living in it and he goes in with her at night. she has made her nest in the corner. So should I stop the drake from seeing her? I’ll put a picture of the egg in. She sat all day yesterday so today would have been her second day of sitting on the eggs.

All egg's air cells grow, that's mot an indicator of fertility. When infertile eggs are incubated the air cells can get pretty big. I would not let the drake in so he doesn't distract her, but I've never had a broody so I don't know if he would actually mess her up or not. I'd be worried about him crushing or eating the eggs.

Okay thank you for your help! She covers the eggs up before she goes outside and the drake stays out all day until night when I put him in.

You're welcome! Glad I could help. Good luck with your ducks! Just ask if you have any more questions :)
