How can you identify a fertile egg? My neighbor now has a Barred Rock rooster, about 5 mos old, he has been jumping on my girls…not sure if anything is happening or is he even old enough.
Have had chickens for quite a while, never had a rooster…not sure what to expect. Any difference in the eggs, etc…

The only difference between a fertilized egg and a nonfertilized egg is a small bullseye on the yolk. You can check the next time you go to make scrambled eggs. 5 months old is still pretty young for a cockerel to start fertilizing the hens. A lot of times he's unstable and not experienced enough to be getting the job done properly. R (1).jpg
