I’ve crossed my roo with a few different hens to get very sweet little sex-links. It’s been pretty consistent and reliable. I finally hatched some chicks crossed with my fibro roo over white leghorn hens. The result consfused me. The chicks are very sweet, white with black spots, but the skin/shanks are light with black spots. The melanin seems to be “blending” which should indicate female, but it’s still very confusing. One of the crosses hatched all black! I have had chicks that have darkened over time and chicks that were very dark at hatch. I’m selling some chicks but I don’t want to mislabel their sex.
I’m also assuming offspring that are crossed back to the rooster will not be sex-links if the hen had dark skin and the rooster does as well?
I’d appreciate if a more knowledgeable/educated person than me could take a look. Tell me what you think!
