Hi there,

Our first egg hatched in the incubator. The chick is laying on its side and breathing rapidly. He isn’t quite all the way dry from the yolk. We are very new to this and are nervous and do not know what to to. Please help!

Thanks in advance!

How long has the chick been hatched out?

Could just be exhausted from the hatch.

I personally would just leave him in the incubator until he is fully dry.

Some babies just don't do well the hatch out is rough on some.

It’s been at least 12 hours. That is what we were thinking. Leaving until he is fully dry. But just wasn’t sure. Then I came across this during my google search. Thank you.

I remember my first experience hatching eggs, it went something like this :wee. My second hatch experience produced :idunnopathetic results. I was way too anxious and oh so "hands on" my yield from that hatching session was 2 RIR roosters. The best advice I have gleaned from BYC is to relax, and cultivate a hands off policy. 21 days never seemed so long. But thanks to BYC :caf I'm learning a lot.

I am thankful for this group. Unfortunately the little guy didn’t make it. We are a little heartbroken. But we have some more eggs we are waiting to hatch!

Do NOTHING... it's normal!!! Wait until it is dry, and then you CAN move it over to a brooder.
