First Butchering Experience...Have Q's!!

Thinking back on the whole process, I'm just not sure now if I had ruptured the bile sack

... I don't think I did, but seeing as I didn't know what I was really doing and was quickly learning while doing (not the best method with cleaning chickens), it is very possible. I'm very sure the chicken had gotten spoiled, because the taste was horrible. I washed the carcass thoroughly, so I know there weren't any feces left in the first bird (the one we tried to eat). From reading your responses, I may have ruptured the bile sack and didn't know it. My hubby didn't think there was anything wrong with the bird being left on the counter for 15 minutes, but after tasting that bird, he's decided not to let any more sit for any length of time now. We now have a better idea on how to process chickens, thanks to all you helpful people!

Also did some more reading too, which helped me to understand a few things. I will definately be more prepared this next go around. Next time, I will close up their coop after dark so I don't have to chase them around the next day

. Also I will not let them eat anything the day before, which makes sense. I've got a large cooler that I'm going to throw ice and cold water into, along with keeping the hose handy, and my hubby is going to get some better knives. From my quick little experience, I know where to make my cuts now and will be extemely careful pulling out the innards. I hope to have delicious chicken within this next week!

Will let you all know how it turned out!
