Hello BYC,

I just got a 3 month old frizzle rooster his owner gave him away because he was being bullied and he is so small, I have had him for 4 days my daughters have been picking him up he falls asleep in the lap etc but today I went to pick him up and he literally grabbed my skin and would not let go I was so surprised! this is my first frizzle rooster and he has not been introduced to my hens yet it was not even a peck he grabbed skin is this normal any advice TIA.

Sounds like your cockerel who may end up turning mean. Young roos really start acting up right around the 3 month stage so he may be just showing his true colors. He may calm down or he may get worse as he matures. I wouldn't have the kids playing with him anymore if they are still quite young. Might be best to just toss him in with the hens so they can teach him some manners.

I just processed two of my 4 month old cockerels today, one frizzle and one blue splash EE. Neither was particularly mean but they certainly weren't friendly. 2 other cockerels went to someone with a hen only flock, one of those was mean and broke skin on me twice. I'd had enough of the extra cockerels causing a ruckus and pulling feathers off my 2 month old chicks, I planned to butcher them all but the 2 got lucky. One EE cockerel remains and so far he's been pretty well mannered.

Thank you so much makes me feel sad as I was hoping he would not turn mean the last time I had a rooster was about 11 years ago and decided on this little guy as a gift for Hubby, Thanks for answering.

The only male frizzle I had was rotten from a month old. But bitting and refusing to let go is a very clear sign that his behavior is going to escalate
Oh wow! I gave him a chance thinking this breed was docile and small I guess I was wrong, I guess I will have to get rid of him too Thanks for responding.

The hens I've had are nice, and lots of other people have had very nice/polite males. But my male was just not one. He was aggressive to anything that breathed before he even had all his feathers grown in. Honestly the youngest male I'd ever had that was so aggressive.

we just got him on Sunday it's not even a week he's been with us I hesitated for so long on adding a rooster because of their temper, he was bullied at his last home by the hens smh.

I don't think frizzles are necessarily any specific breed. Just a feather type. The 2 I hatched came as shipped eggs from a mixed flock of several breeds, only one was listed to be frizzle and it was an EE. Makes sense now looking back at the photos of the listing, there was a frizzle EE roo and I hear it's a 1/3 chance of a frizzleXother creating another frizzle.

You could pretty easily keep your little man for a while longer and let him breed the hens, then hatch the eggs and likely get more frizzles. Of course breeding from a mean roo isn't exactly a good thing but hey, at least it gives you the chance of having frizzle hens and maybe a nice roo?
