Hello everyone,

To preface I have 4 jumbo coturnix quails (Pharaoh hens) hitting 7 weeks tomorrow. Excitingly they just gave me their first egg yesterday! I am not sure which one of them dropped it but It did not come out with any spots? The first one also looks almost a pale blue. I did not buy celadons but the person I had gotten them from did have celadons. Is this normal or did they accidentally give me a celadon? I checked today and same thing another egg with no spots. It was overall healthy and had a tough shell but It is my first time taking care of quails. Is this just a normal occurrence since it’s their first time? Does this mean they’re unhealthy or stressed? I am still feeding them their 30% starter until they hit 10 weeks, they have sandbaths, several covers, some plants and their usual 14-16 hrs of (artificial) light. They also stay in a garage so they don’t have any preys to stress them out. I clean out their enclosure daily and have had them since they were 2.5weeks so they’re use to my presence now. Please let me know what more I can do for my little champs, I love them! Thank you all for the help and guidance! :)

A white egg needs paint, sometimes you’ll get a copper colored one too, but the left one does look celadonish, if they keep coming you got a blue egg layer if not it’s just the repro tract gearing up. I got 30% weird eggs out of five week old hens on 30% starter, am now down to 1% weird eggs out of 7 week old hens on 21% protein feed, they grow a little slower but it also means their repro tract has a little more time to get its house in order!

I think i’ll take your advice and change their feed a bit sooner than planned. I’ll keep looking out for any other colored eggs and how they change throughout these weeks. Thank you for the tips, I am still new to quails :)
