One of my 2 Turkey hens has started exhibiting some broody behaviors. She stayed on her nest last night, so around 19 hours of sitting on her nest. She is sitting on 15 fertile eggs, that she layed 12 of, and her mother layed 3. Both hens have bred. The issue is that, today, she has no interest in her nets at all. She’s been off it for 3 hours so far this morning, and isn’t exhibiting any abnormal behaviors. The biggest problem is that I’m not home, and won’t be until evening tomorrow. My main question is, will the eggs be fine if she abandons them for the next 24 hours? Last night is the first time she’s truly sat for awhile, and she definitely is going broody. But I have no guarantee of her going back onto the nest today. My anxiety is stopping me from having fun on my trip, and I really just need to know if the eggs will be fine or not.

I’ve been spying on her with my security cameras, that’s how I know what’s happening.

If the eggs won’t be fine, atleast I know and won’t have to be worried for the rest of today. If I was home I’d have already put these eggs in the incubator and given her fake ones, and given the eggs back when she decided to be trustworthy. Please and thank you :)

It's been cold here the last few days so the hen that have laid eggs spent the night on their nests. They are not broody and their eggs are going to be fine.

Your hen may not be broody yet and may have just been keeping the eggs from freezing.

But, not all first time layers are good broodies. If you want to make sure the eggs hatch, incubate them and don't rely on an unproven broody.

Thanks.

My goal was never to rely on her, and I should’ve brought the eggs inside whilst I was gone, but I didn’t for some reason. I was going to be relying on her mother, who is a great brooder and mother, and I was going to let the younger one hatch a few if she wanted. I don’t have a demand for poults this year, so I’m mostly hatching them for fun, and my incubator doesn’t even turn the eggs reliably, so hatching em inside is too stressful for me.
