I set out a home made "pop bottle style" Fly trap. The mixture I made for the trap was water sugar and white vinegar. It's been up for 2 days in the coop which has a lot of flies right now, and it's only caught 2 flies!

Any one have any tips for me? There are flies all over the inside of the coop, why are they not falling for the yummy sugar water?

What recipes do you use in your trap?

I used a store bought fly trap, the kind that goes in a gallon jug. You put water and the "Fly Attractant" in the jug and this cap thing on top. Not one single fly. I even took the top off. Not one single fly. They were buzzing all around it, not one single one caught. I'm going back to using the sticky strips, that gets 'em.
Good luck....

Very simple the flies are attracted to light, place the trap by a light source and it will fill up in no time. BTW I do not use sugar in mine just water, vinager, and a little dish soap. Mine collect most the flies of a night, not uncommon to get a dozen flies in each trap. I think sugar is used for wasps.

i use that trap too and get wasps, bees, flys and spiders in it. i have several on my deck and have been using them for about two months. got my dad to 'donate' the bottles and we've made a bunch of the traps.
