Hey guys, it's been years since I have been on here(when I first started chicken keeping) and I have now moved on too ducks!. I have 3 Pekin and 3 khaki cambell ducklings. We have two large ponds in our backyard that we want to use as a home for the ducks. I was thinking about a safe predator proof coop since my pond is next to the woods, and this got me thinking....what if their coop was surrounded by water, that way land predators couldn't reach them. I have figured out ways to make a platform float, styrafoam barrels PVC pipes ect. As well as a pulley system to move it too the edge of the pond for Access. I was curious if anyone has done anything else like this?

Can I ask how well they come back after being in a large pond? Are you able to still find the eggs? I have 8 ducks and right now just let them have a small pool. However, I have a large 25k+ pond in my yard. Just been worried letting them use it that they won't come back or be able to find their nest.

Everyone I've talked too that made floating duck house for their ducks, said they never go in it..Raccoons, Owls, Hawks, Snappers could all get your ducks easily.

Hmm....wonder what else I could do. If I put a door in I could eliminate most of the predators. I've had free range chickens for 3 years and have yet to loose one to a predator (they are locked up at night) but I still don't want to chance it

A predator-proof coop on land is your best bet, ducks are more prone to predators than chickens.
