Hey! I’m wanting to plant flowers this year that’d be good for cut arrangements. I’m also thinking about what to plant for future years.
I planted zinnias last year, and they did beautifully. I also have already planted some strawflower.

But! I was wondering for those that live in areas of clay soil, what kind of flowers do y’all like to plant? What grows well? I’m not looking for things to plant from a bulb.

I live in zone 8 if that helps! 7 or 8 depending on the map you look at 😅

I'm in zone 9, so pretty close and I have clay. One thing that grows like crazy here, and that I like in flower arrangements, is cardoon. The flowers look like giant thistle flowers, pretty purple. The plants look like artichokes, a close relative. I will warn you, cut ALL the flowers, because they volunteer like crazy. Mine came to me from my neighbors yard over a 6 ft fence. I keep them because they are very drought tolerant , and provided shade and cover for the chickens, but now the new batch of hens thinks they are yummy so I don't know if they will get big enough to flower this year.

Thanks! I have never heard of that flower before, but they are pretty! Our summers get very hot, and it isn’t uncommon to experience drought here throughout July and August
