Foot ailment

Im not sure at all what this is. He is favoring this foot and after i brought him in to get cleaned up this is what it looks like. We have had really inconsistent temperatures and a soggy muddy yard but this just looks scary to me and i dont know where to begin to help. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Looks like possibly bumblefoot. Which is an infection in the joint. There are lots of threads on BYC about the treatment of it. I haven't dealt with it so I'm no help. Hopefully someone more experienced with the treatment can help out.
