We just noticed a swelling on our girl's right foot and what appears to be a healed issue with a hole (all the way through) on her left foot. Any thoughts or recommendations are much appreciated!
Details:
1) Cuckoo Maran, 6 years old, normal weight for breed.
2) No change in behavior, still active and laying almost daily.
3) Just noticed this week.
4) No other chickens have any swellings, injuries or sickness.
5) No sign of trauma. The bottoms of her feet look perfectly normal. It is very slightly warm to the touch and I'm concerned about infection. It didn't seem to bother her as I inspected it and pushed on it (it's firm). I do not see any opening or black spot as I've read about in other threads--it is just a pink swelling.
7) No changes in diet--actively eating and drinking.
8) Poop looks normal.
9) No treatment thus far, we would like to treat her ourselves if possible to avoid the trauma of transporting her to the vet.
12) We have always used all natural aspen wood shavings in the coop. There are no signs of bugs in the shavings. The inside of the coop has white walls and flooring and we do not see any signs of insects.

This looks like our old foe bumblefoot, it doesn't always have a black spot. A drawing salve is best for bumblefoot, unless the infection is so acute the bird has no appetite, which is not the case here. PRID (from Walmart or amazon) will draw the infection to the surface making it easy to remove without surgery. A youtube video in two parts describes the process.
When I first found this, I assumed that PRID is herbal, in the meantime I found out that it's herbal + homeopatic. I was wondering why the lady is using gloves when applying it, quick research revealed that homeopatics are not supposed to be touched. If that's the rule, that's the rule, so in order to make sure it is given all the chances to work, gloves should be worn when applying it. The extraction, I suppose, can be done with/without gloves :D, everyone knows if they have cuts on their hands and how capable their immune system is of tackling staphs. :)

There are other non-surgical ways, but they are more time consuming.

That first picture with bump is a bumblefoot Infection
I treat my rooster with a upper foot bumble Infection
You have to wait for 2-3 days and see if it change in shape or looking

In my case at first it looks normal then there's a black dot forming inside the bump and it become hard then when it's maximum ripe I pop the bump and drain the pus / gunk
Wash it with Saline then Enrofloxacin 10%

Wrap with Silver Sulfadiazine Ointment + Enrofloxacin 10% Liquid it heal quickly you have to wait and see till then soak it in hot water with Epsom salt or shampoo I use Shampoo & Oregano Oil as it's very good antibacterial and antifungal

Good luck!
