Hello! I had chickens (Ameracanas and Barred Rock) and pearl grey guineas in the past. They were raised together and got along perfectly. I never had any trouble and my guineas never bullied and always roosted at night alongside my chickens. My question is, I am planning to start another flock and I can not find any really great information on the differences between French and "regular" guineas besides size. And even then, I've heard people claim they weren't even noticeably bigger. Then other sources said they were so big they couldn't even roost (perhaps they were Jumbo...then I heard Jumbo and French may be the same thing). My pearl grey guineas were only a bit smaller than my chickens. I never had any issues with bullying and perhaps that was they reason why? I also didn't keep a rooster. Does anyone have French and regular guineas (perhaps with pictures) to compare the size difference? Do they forage as well? Same noise level? I have the opportunity to get either French (which are from the farm store) or regular guineas (that are a mix of colors from a local person). Just looking for some good info and suggestions. Thanks!

My understanding is that the French or jumbo guineas are ones that have been bred to be larger. They supposedly grow very fast and weigh a couple pounds more then a traditional guinea but with no other differences then that. Behavior and instincts are all the same.
I have no experience with them, this is just what I’ve read. My guineas are just your standard ones.
