Gender Quiz- 4 weeks old barnyard mix

All chicks are 4 weeks-

Chick #1. I think this is a pullet.




Chick #2 … ?

Chick # 3-
I’m pretty sure this is a pullet.



Chick #4
I’m thinking cockerel. I’m also curious what color this chick will be. The feathers are coming in like a cream color. Too dark to be white, too light to be buff…



Chick #5 pretty confident is a cockerel.


Chick #6… ?


Let me know your thoughts or guesses and I’ll do my best to update the post once I know for certain!

2, 4 and 5 are cockerels, but it is still a bit early to tell. All are super cute!

At four weeks #4 and #6 are the only two I’d be “sure” are pullets. Agree with summer on the cockerels, #1 is a Hope situation!!

6 wk Update-

#1 and #2 I’m still unsure about, so I have updated pics.

If you were curious about the others its pretty apparent now that #3 is a pullet, #4 & #5 are cockerels, & #6 is a pullet.

#1 is looking more and more boyish to me. The comb is larger and redder than the pullets. It’s more red than the pullets, but not quite as red as the cockerels. This chick has suddenly grown quite brazen and squares off with the other cockerels white frequently.

What throws me off, too, is that both these chicks are supposed to be a red sex link (red rooster, SLW hen). So If these chicks are male, then I guess that means the mom can’t be my SLW (unless there is a possible exception to the sex linked coloring rule?) If the SLW hen isn’t the mama, then I’m really baffled and couldn’t even begin to guess who the mama is because the eggs they hatched out of are very distinct. Chick #1 has developed speckles, so perhaps the mama is my Speckled Sussex. But again- their eggs are so different in size, color, & texture - I can’t really see how that could be. Also I have 3 other chicks from this SS hen and they don’t have the speckles. So what do you think?

Chick #2 I’m even less sure about. The comb is smaller than #1, but more red than the other pullets. This chick is smaller than #1 in size, and calmer.
