Hi there. I’m writing to seek advice about my female goose (almost a year old, just started laying a few weeks ago but has since stopped).
For the past week or so I have been treating her for what I suspect is a vitamin deficiency. I noticed she was eating a lot of dirt, and then she stopped laying eggs. Now she is basically immobile except in the water. When she’s walking, she is lifting her feet really high and it seems hard for her to take actual steps. Sometimes she stumbles and falls, at which point her wings go out and she lays her head out on the ground and she just stays there. She talks to me and she swims fine, she drinks a lot. She has refused any form of food for a week now and for three days I have been tube feeding her with duck crumbles, peas, hydro hen, and poultry cell in the blender with water. Sometimes I catch her looking at the feeders like she’s going to eat, but she never does. Her poop is like green water. With her symptoms not improving and her weight loss continuing, I’m at a loss and seeking advice on what else I could do to help her. My son LOVES this goose and I want to do everything I can to see her through whatever this is. I do not have a poultry vet, my farm vet told me she won’t do birds. Is there any other supplements or feed replacement options that are tube-feeding-friendly for waterfowl? I have many farm stores in my area and I can usually find almost anything livestock related I just don’t know what it is that I should be looking for. Thanks for any advice. She is free range, so botulism is possible I guess. But because she’s using her neck more often than she’s not, I leaned more towards a vitamin related issue.
