I’m a long time chicken and duck raiser but first time with goslings. A friend gave me 2 females a few days ago. I already had 4 3 day old cayuga ducklings so I put them together. They get along great even if the goslings seem to be growing 4x faster than them. They’re still in the brooder as of now but I take them all outside into the pasture for a couple hours. When they are in the brooder they all seem fine for the most part except this one gosling that just will not stop crying. I pick her up and check on her, nothing seems wrong. Breathing seems fine. She’ll just be lying with them in the pile and cry the entire time while the ducklings and other gosling chirp back at her occasionally. Is this normal gosling behavior? I also noticed the goslings seem to sneeze a lot of water and wanted to know if that’s normal as well.

Crying is normal, she’s crying to be held. Normally they snuggle under their mom’s wing so being exposed to bright light from a brooder and having nowhere dark and soft to duck under is hard for some goslings.

The sneezing could be normal, if they’re just snorting water out after drinking, if they have a persistent runny nose and actual sneezing then there’s some sort of respiratory illness.

I know this is late. I just wanted to comment on putting stuffies in with new babies. I go to Goodwill and stock-up on $1 animals for my babies. Each set get a new one, so I don't worry about washing it when they no longer need it.

I just got in goslings that were stressed from shipping and refusing to eat. Their shipping box was too large; one was doa. They only starting eating when I put some crumbles (mixed with grass, oats, and grit) on top of the stuffed pig. Had totally refused regular food before. Called hatchery for advice and was told to add grass and oats. But still, they refused until I placed it on their substitute mom. 12 hrs later, they're still eating off "mom" but will nibble at the bowl. Progress!
