Hey there fellow flock keepers! My name is Chai and I literally just got my 7 baby chicks on Friday!!
I look forward to getting to know other CT residents here, full disclosure will probably scout the threads and post often if I have questions since I'm totally new to this.
I have 3 Americauna, 1 golden and 1 silver laced wyandotte, and 1 black Australorp. (At least thats what I ordered and pretty sure I got them all here) I'm still thinking of names
it's crazy how fast they grow! I'm sure they all would barely fit in the box they originally came in from the feed store.
It's been surprisingly difficult to get a good idea of where to put the heat lamp, there were some temp fluctuations on the first day and noticed yesterday two had pasty butts, but with checking on them twice a day for cleaning they seem to be doing fine but boy that was scary!
If anyone is actually reading my post, I'll check out threads later when I have a moment, but if you have a minute to spare, I'd love to hear your thoughts on ducklings! I really want to get some ducks but everyone local I've talked to says it's a bad idea unless you have a large pond/ can let them roam freely. Where I live I have basically every kind of wildlife that will eat chickens and ducks so they will probably be enclosed except for some supervised grazing in small groups.
Thanks for reading, I look forward to talking more with you all!
