Hi there everyone, glad to be here. My family just got a flock of 8 chickens, 5 of which were killed promptly by a neighbor's dogs (we were grief stricken!) Fortunately we were able to adopt a hen with six pullets, which we are now keeping in a small chicken tractor next to our coop.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We are new to chickens, yes, but I have been researching for about four years, and I built a coop that took about six months of prep and building. (Third Coast Craftsman style)
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have one rooster and three hens, and six pullets. (I think four of the pullets are male)
(3) What breeds do you have?
No idea, but they are all beautiful
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Spending time with the family
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I have plenty of hobbies, but I'm just now getting into hunting, which is the newest one since we moved to the south.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We (my wife and I) have four kids, and no other pets (we plan on getting rabbits and eventually working up to gardening and an aquaponics system)
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
