So I'm new to raising chickens. My husband farms and his aunt usually supplies the family with eggs from her chickens but I finally got him talked into letting me get my own.

Okay so my question is, when they grind corn for his aunts chickens they grind it really fine. So we have been feeding it to our chickens also but there is a lot of waste because they don't eat the fine powder that is with the corn. How fine or coarse do you grind your feed? We have noticed when we feed the goats oats and whole kernel corn the chickens are cleaning up any spills they can. I don't think we need that fine of ground corn but need some input. Thank you!!

I give my chickens whole corn sometimes cracked corn an they eat it all up just fine. Try just giving them whole or cracked corn instead:)

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow My starter goes through either a 3/16" or 1/4" screen and my layer and grower through 3/8" screen. I like mine chunky for the kids. When you have a sec stop by new member introductions and tell us a little about yourself. Again welcome.:frow

As others said, you don't have to grind it too fine...but if you happen to have some that is ground fine, try mixing it with some water to make a thick paste. I find that makes for less waste.
