Hello again. I just wanted to post this because I had made a post a couple years ago, in reference to one of my chickens who was laying what looked like a fertilized egg. Well I got a few rude comments. This just popped up in my email about such a condition so I just wanted to share it. It is a thing and it's called "gynandromorph" . 1 in 10,000 birds have it, imagine that. I thought (and someone else thought) I was nuts! No I'm not. Happy New Year !!

Gynandromorphs can't fertilize their own eggs.
What one looks like.

@Allsfairinloveandbugs has one too, and has been posting about it recently. You might want to have a look/get in touch with them.

@MoEggers edited to add a link to it here https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/i-have-another-androgenous-chicken😅.1608205/

@MoEggers , I went and looked at the thread you mentioned where you said you received rude comments, and saw that I had previously read (and reacted to) that thread before. No you weren't nuts, and while rare, gynandromorphs and intersex birds do occur. Almost all gynandromorph and intersex birds are sterile, but that doesn't mean that everything single one is.(My first one was sterile; the current chicken is still too young to determine.) I believe duel sex birds appear in photos and/or are discussed several times yearly on BYC, even if they aren't recognized as such. On my newest thread that @Perris linked here, most all commenters thought my newest questionable chicken was/is fully female. (Others along with @Perris are open-minded and waiting to see what transpires.) In other words, many also probably thought i was nuts for thinking my questionable chicken is anything other than a normal pullet. But there was something about "her" that was very different from all the other pullets hatched this year, as well as all my other older hens. (Except for one previous "hen".) I've been closely observing this newest chicken for the past couple of months, trying to figure her out. Obvious physical changes are now ocurring and ongoing, and I will be posting updated photos and comments later today on the thread linked above. I would love to know more about your chicken's appearance and behaviors, and why you thought she might be/have been duel-sexed. If you have any pictures of left and right-side views of her that you can post here, that would be great! 🙂
