Any history buffs here? My foray into #vanlife in the day and age of social media led me to do some research into old gypsy vardos. Some of them were built with little more than baskets attached to the exteriors for the purpose of housing chickens. I am genuinely baffled now how many chickens were stuffed in there; how long did they have to stay in there; were they just there goe transport & let out to forage when the vardo was parked; and how they fared in foul weather?

If anyone finds out I’d love to know.

I didn't know they got repurposed as chicken coops! Some of the old tear drop and wild west wagon styled ones can be worth a lot of money.

I’m not aware of any gypsy vardos repurposed as chicken coops. My OP was referring to small enclosures that don’t look bigger that 8”x24”. I read about those being used for chickens a couple of years ago. Can’t find that particular reference now though.
