I have just had a roof built over my back porch and would like to create a room effect by putting a mirror and a cabinet out there with our patio set. My question is, would a indoor mirror and cabinet - the type you get at Lowes for kitchens- hold up to heat/humidity etc? We live in the South where it is very hot and humid in the summer.

I would like your opinions please.

It seems to me that the particle board/melamine material the cabinet would be made out of would certainly withstand humidity, as they do in bathrooms. Just make sure that you do a good job on the assembly and anchor it to the wall behind so you don't get any movement.

That's my .02

Thanks Pete.

You know I never thought how humid a bathroom gets and it is the same type of cabinet. Thanks, that makes me feel more confident to use it. I am quite excited to "furnish" the space. We have been wanting to put a roof over the patio for ages and finally got it done.

Don't let the wood itself get wet. The laminate repeals water just fine, but the pressboard will soak it up like a sponge and expand just like a sponge does.

Thanks guys for the advice.

The cabinet I am looking at is a premade kichen base cabinet a Lowes. It does have some pressed board at the bottom and possibly at the sides. I was thinking of cutting the bottom off and attaching bunt feet to make it look more like a piece of furniture which will also get rid of any pressed board near the floor.

I was thinking of staining it with Behr deck/fence stain to add some color and also make it water resistant, but the Thompsons would work too and I think I still have some left from another project.

Bird checking out their reflection in the mirror should be interesting!
