I put my Charcoal male in his breeding pen with his IB split to charcoal hen in the morning. I did not notice anything when I put him into the pen but when I got home from work I noticed that under his chin and around his neck is really swollen. Now he was eating and drinking in front of me just before it got dark so it is not bothering him. I never seen the swelling below the face before. I am wondering what cause this. It isn't hard but gooey to the touch kinda like a water balloon. Could he have gotten into a fight in the shed? or did he get bit by something? or eat something?

Mabe he got stung by a wasp.

Have you checked the inside of his mouth? Do you think you could try to aspirate some fluid from it using a large gauge needle?

I am thinking that he got stung by a bee/wasp. I noticed today that there are somekind of ground wasps flying around. There are a lot of holes in the ground by the corner of the pen. The holes look like earthworm holes except that a wasp lives in each hole. I am thinking he tried to eat one. He is swollen around the throat and on one leg. He seems to be ok other then the swelling. I sprayed raid into each hole and killed the wasps/bees. I will see how he is doing tomorrow. If the swelling doesn't go down I will call my peafowl vet.

It is going away very slowly, but it is going away LOL. Today was the first day that he opened his train - boy is it broken up. Gotta be the worst train in the pen. He sleeps on top of the wall cage with the younger ones and they step all over it and break the feathers when he tries to fly down

Swelling is gone and he is finally back to himself.

Took over a week for the swelling to go down and I checked him before dark and it was gone
