Has anyone used chaffhaye for your goats

I brought my three 4-H show wethers home on April 7th. They had been on timothy/orchard hay, and free choice 16% textured non-medicated feed.

It was still somewhat chilly and damp when I brought them home, and I do not have a "warm" shelter for them. So I added Chaffhaye to their orchard hay and free choice 16% textured feed. A little over a month after bringing them home, one of the developed a blockage die to urinary calculi, and had to have the blockage surgically repaired... The vet said it was likely due to the Chaffehaye - NOT the grain.

Based on that, I will no longer feed Chaffhaye to any wethers. Can't comment on other "sexes" of goats, as I do not have any experience with them.

UC comes from an unbalanced diet.. you can't take into account just ONE piece of their nutrition. UC is a result from the whole picture.

I feed chaffhaye to my herd. They LOVE it. I LOVE it. Where I live we can't get any type of consistent quality in our alfalfa hay, plus have to travel over an hour to even get to any. We feed either millet or sorghum hay free choice (little nutritional value, just is something for them to munch ) and then feed half of their chaffhaye ration morning and night. It's been a lifesaver for me, and I highly recommend it!

An unbalanced diet may be the primary cause of UC but it is not the only cause of UC. In all the years I had goats, I only had one case. If diet was the cause I should have had a lot more cases than that because all the goats got fed the same. Sometimes something as simple as running short of water can bring it on.
