I just contacted a nice member here who said they put their eggs into an egg carton (just the bottom, I assume) for the last 3 days, and let them hatch there. I never heard of this. Now I see a few posts on here that say the same. It is rather upsetting to see the early hatched chicks run all over the newly hatched ones. I would think, however, that if the egg was in an egg carton, big end up, that when the chick hatched, he would be stuck there in a hole with broken egg shell all over. But, the early hatched chicks couldn't roll the eggs all around this way.
Have any more of you hatched in an egg carton??? Please let me know your experience, as I have some in the bator on day 8 right now. Thanks.

I put mine in on the last 3 days. Didnt have much sucess with it not going to try it again. I am not sure if it was the egg carton or not. I am gonna do it the natural way. So thats all the advice I can give you on this. Some have better hatches some do not.

Mine got out of the cartons fine. My problem was once they hatched they were walking all over the cartons and the weight of them caused the cartons to come in contact with the water wells (that were very full to keep humidity up) and then they wicked up water. This caused the humidity to go way to high and I ended up with the unpiped eggs drowning. Next time I will try sponges in the bottom and less water in the wells and see if that works.

Needtohatch, didn't you have a screen wire over the water wells? I have a LG9200, and it has screen over the water wells? Or did the screen sink down into that?

My last hatch was in the egg carton - I cut the bottom of the egg carton out and 8 of 10 eggs hatched - the other 2 quit about day 20.

They hatched out nicely and were able to get around the incubator quite well and easily. This time I have 36 eggs left in the bator and not sure if I am going to hatch out in the egg carton because of the number.

I was happy with my results. Easy clean up and the chicks rested on the cartons and went to sleep - it was rather cute.

I have thought about using styro cartons, but read to use cardboard only.

Will keep reading up as wont set next batch till later this week. Hope it goes better this time!

I've never had a problem with them getting wet from the water. I use 1588s and I don't have my LG anymore to compare the depth to. Maybe the screen in the LG is lower? I also don't keep the wells full, but use sponges to control the humidity.

filling the wells to over flowing does not increase the surface area.

volume of water makes no difference..

just fill the wells half full..

OK I am not sure I am reading this correctly. When you take the egg turner out or it is 3 days and counting to Hatch day you put the eggs in egg cartons and they will hatch out of them? Ok That sounds like a good idea. does it work well? and they get out of the shells ok when they hatch?
