Hello
So I went to pick up some hatching eggs today (Well out of my way, time+ money).
I was so excited to get them , I guess it was my fault for not looking better at the eggs before purchase . We also bought some chicks from them as well so the new baby chick cuteness overload blinded me…

I left the reputable farm and when I got home notice the eggs were dirty. Atleast all have some kind of poop on them. And that’s all the eggs they had saved for me. So I’m gonna hold off on putting them in the incubator for now.
I’ve read on another thread with suggestions: To wash or not to wash. I don’t have a broody hen to put the dirtiest ones under… and I don’t know what to do.
Has anyone had a good hatch rate with dirty eggs in the incubator?
I’m scared they will hatch and all the poop on the shells will harm them after they’re born. I hope that made sense.
Any advice is much appreciated and welcomed.
Thanks :)

You don't want to wash the eggs as it will wash away the protective "Bloom" from the eggs.
You can however lightly rub some of the poop/dirt off the eggs. We've hatched tons of eggs that were covered in mud and poop without a problem. As the eggs develop, the humidity in the incubator will help soften up the dirt/poop on the eggs. So it shouldn't affect the eggs hatching too much. If you could, can you take a picture of the eggs and post it here so we can see exactly whats going on and be of better help?
Congratulations on your new chicks!!

Yes, I didn’t want to go as far as that and wash the bloom off. We’ve tried to hatch a small clutch with only one hatching (that’s why we went to go buy more babies 😁) but all my eggs were squeaky clean so the poopy eggs is new for me. I will attach some pics.
Thank you :)
