First time with breeding season. My peahens are in full swing laying. They seem to lay all over the coop/run and not making a nest. I have put down straw and placed the eggs as they are hatched but they don't seem to like that spot. Am I better off just gathering eggs and incubating? I noticed yesterday that several of the eggs were smushed and broken when I went out to check.

Not all peahens will incubate their eggs, it seems even less so when you are excited about the season. Two year hens rarely set a clutch, older hens are more apt to. Every day mark the eggs with that date and set it in the provided nest box. When ten days has passed collect the eggs, leaving the fresh eggs, and either set them in an incubator or under a broody chicken hen. Seeing a clutch of eggs will entice the hen to go broody so don't give up.
