Heat lamp questions

My boyfriend talked me into getting chickens for our daughter. We have to keep them inside and currently have them in a spare room inside a rigged dog cage. I'm super paranoid that the heat lamp is going to start a fire. It is a 250 watt red bulb and it is about 16 inches off the ground. Should I be paranoid??

As long as it isn't touching anything and is secured well, it should be fine. Maybe put a smoke detector right next to it?

No as long as you have it secured and what. I did was duck tape it down make sure it isn't touching anything

Thank you! We have it secured with zip ties on the metal clamp. Just to be on the safe side, I made sure the smoke detector was right over top of the cage. Thanks for your help!!
