Heavy bloom maran

Hey guys I’m going to be hatching some eggs in a couple of weeks! My maran lays a very heavy bloom dark brown egg today’s egg was purple! I have her in a run with a rooster who is supposed to have the green laying gene he’s a starlight green egger. Any ideas on what their babies eggs could look like? Also what are some breeds people usually mix with heavy bloom marans for different egg colors? I have an americauna rooster I’d like to move her with after I hatch some of some of her eggs with the green egger!

A blue egg gene and brown egg genes combine to make green eggs. Green egg layers cross with brown egg layers produce another green egg. It may be a different shade. The dark marans genes may create an olive egger.
There is a possibility if your green egg contributor has 1 gene of not blue that some could lay brown eggs.

What chicken laid the beautiful blue eggs? I had easter eggers but they never laid eggs that blue. Those are very pretty.

Those are our americauna eggs! they do they such nice eggs! this was one of our girls eggs today

So that must be the difference between an Easter egger and an Americauna. Maybe Easter eggers are a little more diluted from the blue to a lighter blue. My Easter eggers eggs actually got lighter and closer to white through summer.

I think it really just depends on the bird we have a lot of americauna they are our favorite and we have some that lay light blue eggs and some that lay nice bright blue eggs like these.

Oh wow ok. I guess I thought since Easter eggers are a mix that the Americauna hens laid darker blue. Learn something every day. Unfortunately that breed doesn't do well here so I opted for Delawares. Those eggs are all such pretty rainbow eggs.

Our legbars lay bright blue as well not sure how they would do were you live but another good option!
