Hello all! I'm Gina, live in NW Indiana with my husband, Joe, and our 5 kids, ages 7, 6, almost 5, (<boys, girls>) almost 2, and 9mo. Besides chickens and ducks, we've got 2 4-legged family members, Lucy- our Lab-Rott mix pup, and our "stray" cat, Big, that adopted my husband and is his garage buddy. I'm a stay at home mom. I garden and can tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and squash. I crochet when my littles are sleeping. I love to read historical fictions. I try to blog about parenting and our small homesteading adventures, although I don't post very regularly. We love to camp and go on other adventures most consider unconventional (forget theme parks).
Our kiddos love to help with the chickens and ducks. They along with gardening have been great lessons to help teach the kids. I'm happy we are able to teach our kids and friends and their kids that visit. (being a farming community, most know about where food comes from before it gets to the grocery.) One day we hope to have more property and are able to add goats to the mix!
Our Bantum Rooster, King Raptor William and his hen Williamina
Dino obsessed boys named him
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We've had our little flock for about a year and a half.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We've got 11 chickens, 1 bantum rooster, 3 adult ducks, and 4 ducklings!
(3) What breeds do you have? For the chickens, a pair of bantum Mille Fleurs (although the rooster prefers the bigger girls), black sex links, Rhode Island Reds, and Barred Rocks. Our ducks are all Pekings. Would love to get some heritage breeds of both fowls.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Doing Google searches for questions about chickens and ducks when we purchased them.
