It was a beautiful day in Chick Haven Springs. All the chickens were happy and Nutmeg, Pepper, and Muffin were the happiest family in all of Chick Haven springs. They were so excited for their honey moon which was coming up soon. “Honey, I don’t feel so well I think we need to go to the hospital it’s my stomach!” Nutmeg said. So Pepper said “Ok honey let’s go. Muffin you can come too.” So the family left for the hospital. When they got there, the doctor did some tests then their next option was to do an ultra sound and believe it or not Nutmeg was pregnant! The baby pullet was to be born in 2 days and there was much to do before then. They went back home to tell the good news. Everyone was delighted. Then, the next day, Nutmeg, Lettuce, Tomato, Ginger Face, Ginger Face JR, In Albis, Muffin, and Nugget went to the baby store to get some new clothes, toys, and a new baby bottle for the new baby. Mean while all the cocks and roos stayed home and built a baby crib for the new baby. The hens and pullets came home to see the cutest baby crib ever and when the girls got home the boys saw all the stuff they had bought at the store. It was time for bed. No one, except for Muffin, could sleep because the next day the baby would be born. The next day, at 5:00 in the morning Nutmeg went into labor and all the chickens got into their big car and quickly drove to the hospital. At the hospital everyone waited in waiting room except for Pepper and Nutmeg. In the hospital room the doctors helped deliver the egg while Pepper held Nutmeg’s hand. And in a short amount of time the egg was out and hatched. She was so cute. The doctors said that everyone could come in and visit. While they were visiting, In Albis said “look at how round shaped she is! You know the Latin word melopepo comes from the Greek words melon and pepon melon meant apple and pepon meant gourd or melon so you should name her Melopepo but just call her *Melon*!” And that’s just what they named her! When they got home from the hospital it was time for bed. They put Muffin to bed first and then Pepper picked Melon up and said good night and then Nutmeg picked her up, gave her a kiss and said “good night Melon. I love you so much!” and she laid Melon down in her new crib and on her new pillow and covered her up. Then Pepper and Nutmeg left and turned the light off and the two baby pullets slept more soundly then they ever did again. And so did Nutmeg and Pepper.

It was a lovely day in Chick Haven Springs where 3 lovely hens call home. It was home to Clover (a black Australorp), Joplin (a silver laced Wyandotte), and Nutmeg (a beautiful Golden Comet). Nutmeg had a daughter named Muffin, who was a newly hatched. Nutmeg, Clover, and Joplin were not married and they were all new to Chick Haven Springs so they didn’t know really anybody. One night, when all of them except for Muffin went out to eat dinner and see a movie with some friends, the 3 hens each met a very kind rooster. The roosters, who knew each other very well, went to talk to the girls. Each of the roosters asked one of the hens out on a date. Each of the hens said yes to the rooster that had asked her out!
The rooster who asked Joplin out was named James and he was the same breed as Joplin. The rooster who asked Clover out was named Sage and he was the same breed as Clover. And the rooster who asked fancy Nutmeg out was named Pepper and he was also the same breed as Nutmeg. On Nutmeg’s 4th date, they went to a very fancy restaurant in which was called Welsummer Grapery. Pepper got Nutmeg a whole bouquet of extraordinarily beautiful red roses. After they had finished their meal, Pepper reached into his pocket and pulled out a fuzzy black box. He got down on one knee and said “Nutmeg, I love you so much! Will you marry me?” Nutmeg gasped and said excitedly “yes Pepper I’d be honored!!” So very soon preparations began. And soon it was time for Nutmeg, Clover, Muffin, and Joply to pick out the wedding dress. The 4 pullets went to a bridal store to look around. As soon as they walked in Nutmeg saw the most beautiful wedding dress. It was a splendid silver sarafan dress. And it had a beautiful pink lining around the edges of the dress and many beautiful pearls and there was a beautiful silver headpiece that had long pink ribbons that hung down to the ground. With it there was a beautiful pair of crystal slippers. They only had one in stock and everything fit perfectly so the four pullets bought it. But they weren’t done in the bridal store. They still had to buy the flower girl dress for Muffin and the maid of honor dress and the bride’s maid dress. For Muffin they picked out a little dress that was pale pink and yellow and it had little flowers and leaves sewn on. She decided to get dresses that would match each other for the bride’s maids and maid of honor. They got pale green dresses with silver sparkly waist bands and on the waist bands on one side was a cluster of three pink roses which were made of fabric and sewn on. “These are beautiful!” Said Clover and Joply who were to be the bride’s maid and maid of honor. Finally they were done at the bridal store so they left and went home. James, who was to be the pastor, had already gotten what he needed for the wedding. Pepper had gotten what he needed because the wedding was so soon. And Sage, who was to be the best man, had gotten what he needed. Muffin, who was to be the flower girl, had what she needed. Joply was going to be the bride’s maid so she was ready. Clover was going to be the maid of honor so she had gotten ready. And since the wedding was the next day fancy Nutmeg had to be ready, too. So that night no one except for Muffin could sleep. That morning, when they all got up they went to have some breakfast and Nutmeg gave Muffin her baby bottle with grape juice in it. After breakfast, Nutmeg put Muffin down for her nap while Joply and Clover ironed the dresses. After they were done, ironing, the 3 pullets went to preen their feathers, brush their beaks, style and brush their combs, put on their perfume, gloss their toenails, scrub and soak their feet, and put on their makeup. And then when Muffin woke up, they did the same for her. It was now 9:00 the wedding was at 11:00 it takes about 25 minutes to get there and they wanted to get there early so they were going to have to leave at 10:00 so they had an hour. Clover and Joply put on their dresses while Nutmeg put on Muffin’s dress and shoes which were sparkly pink. After Nutmeg had put on Muffin’s dress and shoes, Clover and Joply helped Nutmeg put on her dress and shoes. They had 15 minutes before they had to leave and since Nutmeg, Joply, and Clover were ready they had to make sure they had the flowers for Muffin to throw and the rings for Pepper and Nutmeg. It was time to go and the 4 pullets were ready. Clover was to drive and Joply was to sit in the back with Muffin while Nutmeg sat in the passenger next to clover. And so they set off. Mean while Pepper, Sage, and James were ready and they had already left for the wedding. The pullets got there first and they immediately went to finish getting ready. “Hey Joply, Clover can you help me with my veil?” “Yes of course we can!” said Joply. Just then, Nutmeg’s family came back to see her. Nutmeg’s mom and sister were American game chickens and her dad was a Rhode Island Red. Her sister’s name was Ginger Face JR. and her mom’s name was Ginger Face and her dad’s name was Big Red. They gave her kisses and hugs. Ginger Face JR. was a bride’s maid, Big Red was to walk her down the aisle and Ginger Face was going to carry Muffin, who would be carrying a basket with the rings and the flower petals, down the aisle so they went ahead and got changed. Pepper, Sage, and James had done the same and had gotten ready. Soon Pepper’s family got there and greeted him with hugs and kisses. Pepper’s dad had sadly died many years ago but thankfully his mom, Nugget, and his sister, Tomato, were still alive! And next thing you know there was Joply’s family really showering him with love. Sadly Joplin’s mom had died last year but his dad, Mayonnaise, and his brother, Mayonnaise JR., were still alive. Then, very soon after, Clover’s family got there and gave her hugs and kisses. Clover’s dad had died a while ago but thankfully her mom, Lettuce, and her sister,
In Albis, were still alive. Joplin’s family, Clover’s family, and Pepper’s family all went to sit down. Pepper, James, and Sage went up to their positions. Soon some special music started playing (but it wasn’t here comes the bride). Down came Ginger Face JR. then Joply then Clover. They went to their positions. Then down came Ginger Face holding Muffin who was holding the basket of flower petals that had the rings in the bottom. “Here comes the bride” started playing and everyone stood up and looked back. Nutmeg and her dad appeared at the end of the aisle. Down came Nutmeg gazing up into her dads eyes. Her eyes all beady. They got to the end of the aisle and Big Red gave his daughter a big kiss then went and sat down with his family. James said “let us begin. Pepper, do you take Nutmeg as your lawfully wedded hen?” “I do.” James said “Nutmeg, do you take Pepper as your lawfully wedded roo?” “I do.” So James said “may I have the rings?” Ginger Face carried Muffin, holding the basket with the rings in it, up to James. Nutmeg put the ring on Pepper and Pepper put the ring on Nutmeg. And James said
“I now pronounce you Roo and hen you may kiss the hen.” Pepper gave Nutmeg a big kiss and just then Muffin said her first words which were da da! They walked down the aisle to their reception which they were very much looking forward to. At the reception they had a beautiful plate of green grapes and a big bowl of other fruit and a big bowl of fruit salad. After the reception they all went back to the girl’s house and they all spent the evening together loving on each other.
