I'm sooooo new to all this! I was a city girl until 2007. Lakeview is a little town in the High Desert South-East portion of Oregon. I've decided to be a chicken girl! We ordered our coop which will get here in a week. My hubby will put it together (how long will that take???) And we will be sectioning off a portion of our yard for the hens to roam. We will then be getting 3-4 hens Juveniles (2 Americana, 2 ?, and 2-3 Bantams of my choice.) I can't find anyplace to get/order some Bantam Silkie (color?) chicks that I could raise! Actually I can't find any Bantams to get at all! We shall see...

! Pleased you joined us! I guess if you ordered a prefab coop it will depend on your hubby's handyman skills - I'd think no longer than half a day. Unless he's like me...and then I'd say half a day plus a week or so! You might be able to chat with some locals in the OR link of the thread below and see if they have a lead on any bantams. Good luck to you!

!! Good to have you aboard! You ordered a prefab coop? It shouldn't take too long to assemble, providing all the correct materials are sent and you have the proper tools. Prefab coops can also be small, so you may want to hold off on getting any other chicks until you know exactly how much space you will have. Check Meyer Hatchery for silkies. This link shows silkie availability...basically they only have males through the summer. Good Luck!
