(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am raising poultry on my own for the first time. Last time I had chicken was as a child with my grandfather.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Last month I received 26 birds including 16 chicken, 4 turkeys, and 6 guinea fowl.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Most, if not all of my chickens are dual-purpose breeds: 1 Buff Orpington rooster, a handful of Easter Eggers, Brown Leghorns, and 3 White Chanteclers. Lavender/Slate turkeys. The guineas are a mix of brown ones and lavender ones (hatchery choice).

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Google

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Studio Art has always been a passion of mine. Other than that, I'm enjoying our growing farm. Hopefully, I'll be riding a Highland steer sooner rather than later -I am getting two heifers soon.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My fiance and I both work from home for the same internet marketing and website design company. As I mention already, we'll be getting a couple Highland cattle soon. We are also getting a Sharplaniac pup next month.

Thank you for having me!

Welcome to BYC. Will the Highland cattle be raised as pets or for their meat ?

The Highlands I'm acquiring are from a beef production farm and I have not seen them in person. If they have less desirable traits, then they will be bred for beef solely but the ladies will be treated like pets otherwise. Some offspring might go into shows and kept for breeding. Steers will go to butcher except for one which will be used for riding.
